Statue of John McLaren, Golden Gate Park. John Hays McLaren (December 20, 1846 – January 12, 1943) was a Scottish-born American horticulturalist. For 53 years (1890–1943 [1]) he served as superintendent of Golden Gate Park in San Francisco, California.
The San Francisco Examiner reported in 1911 that McLaren had modeled for Cummings, and the statue was to be shown at a Bohemian Club art exhibition. [6] The Examiner reported in 1921 that park commissioners wanted the statue erected in Golden Gate Park "soon."
