Firestone Tire and Rubber Company is an American tire company founded by Harvey S. Firestone (1868–1938) in 1900 initially to supply solid rubber side-wire tires [2] for fire apparatus, [3] and later, pneumatic tires for wagons, buggies, and other forms of wheeled transportation common in the era.
On August 17, 1999, Ford in Saudi Arabia began replacing Firestone tires on unsold Ford Explorers and to offer steep discounts on replacement tires to customers who returned to Ford dealers for regular maintenance. While this was not officially a recall Ford still replaced Firestone tires on 6,800 Ford Explorers and Mercury Mountaineers. [11]
