U.S. Route 36, passing through the northern side of the city, leads east 62 miles (100 km) to Hannibal and west 33 miles (53 km) to Brookfield, while U.S. Route 63 passes through the city as Missouri Street, leading north 34 miles (55 km) to Kirksville and south 23 miles (37 km) to Moberly.
