Linton Hall School (formerly Linton Hall Military School) is located in Bristow, Virginia (Prince William County, Virginia,) on a portion of the 1,700 acres of land originally donated for the education of poor boys and girls by Sarah Elliot Linton (born 1822, died 1891,) who took the name of Sister Baptista upon becoming a Benedictine nun at age 22. The area is named for Linton Hall Military School (now Linton Hall School), a school founded by Benedictine nuns on the site of the former Linton's Ford Plantation. Linton's Ford was inherited by Sister Mary Baptista, John Linton's daughter, and upon her death the land was inherited by the Benedictine order for the purpose of educating poor boys and girls.
John Tyler Linton (1796–1821) was a Virginia landowner and philanthropist whose landholdings were donated by his daughter, Sarah Elliott Graham Linton (1822–1901), for the establishment of schools for poor boys and girls in Bristow, Virginia. It is on this land that Linton Hall School (formerly Linton Hall Military School) was established.
