The Gwinnett County Public Schools is a school district operating in Gwinnett County, Georgia, United States. GCPS is the largest school system in Georgia, [ 3 ] with over 140 school buildings [ 4 ] and an estimated enrollment of over 182,000 students for the 2023–2024 school year. [ 4 ]
The school was underfunded compared to white schools in the Gwinnett County system, with a lack of text books and other educational classroom materials. [9] From 1951, the school library holdings increased from 200 books to as many as 8,131 books by 1956. [8] Many of the books were damaged and inherited discards from the white schools. [10]
