The Colt Officer's Model or Colt Officer's ACP is a single-action, semi-automatic, magazine-fed, and recoil-operated handgun based on the John M. Browning designed M1911.It was introduced in 1985 as a response from Colt to numerous aftermarket companies making smaller versions of the M1911 pistol.
Originally intended for high-ranking military personnel, the M15 was built from an existing stock of Colt M1911 pistols. [2] It is similar to the Colt Commander, but has internal differences. Colt later released a similar pistol called the Colt Officer's ACP. This model is commonly referred to as the "Officer".
The first variant, the Officer's Model Target appeared in 1904 as a Premium model more focused on sport shooting than on common use, it was produced in 7.94 mm (.32) and 9 mm (.38) calibers, with barrels whose lengths ranged from 4 in (101.6 mm) to 7.5 in (190.5 mm), with 6 in (152.4 mm) being the most common.
Colt Model 1908 Pocket Hammerless .380 ACP. Its serial number dates manufacture to 1919. This is a Colt US Armament reprise of the 1903 pocket model. It has all of the major updates except the magazine disconnector that was added in 1926. Dismounting for cleaning resembles the Colt .25 "Vest Pocket " Pistol of 1906 but is considerably easier.
The Officer's model was available in .45 ACP and rarely .40 S&W, again only in 1992. Colt eventually redesigned the trigger mechanism and added a retaining plate due to some shooters having problems with skin being pinched by the top part of the trigger, as well as some springs only being retained by the grip panel.
The 1902 Military Model featured a square and lengthened grip frame with an additional round in the magazine, while the 1903 Pocket Hammer featured a shortened barrel and slide but retained the Sporting model grip frame. The Colt M1905.45 ACP pistol would be derived from the same lineage, also with a different serial number range.
Colt's advertising and marketing literature of the time highly touted the advanced safety features of the Model 1908, including a standard slide-locking safety catch, as well as a grip safety.
