SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium (formerly Sydney Aquarium) is a public aquarium in Sydney, Australia. Opened in 1988, it features a large variety of Australian aquatic life, displaying more than 700 species comprising more than 13,000 individual fish and other sea and water creatures from most of Australia's water habitats .
Sea Life is a chain of commercial sea life-themed aquarium attractions. As of April 2017 there are 53 Sea Life attractions (including standalone Sea Life centres, mini Sea Life features within resort theme parks, and Legoland submarine rides) around the world. The chain is owned by the British company Merlin Entertainments.
After its renovation, the aquarium boasted the longest aquarium tunnel in the world, at 110 metres (361 ft). The aquarium was sold to the Sydney Aquarium Company (later Sydney Attractions Group) in 1999 to be operated, as a branch of the Sydney Aquarium. It officially opened in September 2006. It is located on the shores of Darling Harbour and is attached to Sydney Aquarium. Sydney Wildlife World is unusual for a zoo in that it is entirely enclosed and air-conditioned. The indoor zoo features a one-kilometre walkway which snakes through 7000 square metres of enclosures.
Several scenes in the Jackie Chan 1996 film Police Story 4: First Strike were shot in the park, [4] including a scene in the main aquarium. In one of the scenes, a tourist family is visible in the reflection on one of the tanks. During the period of Christmas on 2006 UnderWater World had a giant squid preserved in a block of ice on display. [5]
