The Federal Building is a historic structure in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.It was erected in 1913, the 50th anniversary year of the Battle of Gettysburg. [1] The main Adams County Library building since 1992, it previously served as the War Department/National Park Service headquarters of the Gettysburg National Military Park from 1912 to 1962 and as a branch of the United States Post Office.

[6] An 1830 request for proposals was advertised for constructing the "whole building to be 100 feet, viz. the Centre building to be 50 feet square, two stories each 14 feet high--with two wings, 30 by 25 feet, three stories each 9 feet high.
Rear wings were added in 1895. A large clock tower reaches about 70 feet (21 m) above ground level. During the Battle of Gettysburg the building served as both a command post and as a hospital, for both Union and Confederate armies.
