Georgia's 2nd congressional district is a congressional district in the U.S. state of Georgia.The district is currently represented by Democrat Sanford D. Bishop, Jr.. Georgia's largest district by land area, it comprises much of the southwestern portion of the state.
Georgia is represented in the United States House of Representatives by 14 elected representatives, each campaigning and receiving votes in only one district of the 14. After the 2000 census, the State of Georgia was divided into 13 congressional districts, increasing from 11 due to reapportionment.

Sanford Dixon Bishop Jr. (born February 4, 1947) [1] is an American lawyer and politician serving as the U.S. representative for Georgia's 2nd congressional district since 1993. He became the dean of Georgia's congressional delegation after the death of John Lewis.
From 1792 to 1824, Georgia had elected its representatives at-large. In 1826, for that election only, Georgia switched to using districts. In the new 2nd district, John Forsyth was re-elected to a 3rd term. Some time after the election, Forsyth resigned, having been elected Governor, and a special election was held for his replacement.
Democratic incumbent Sanford Bishop, who has represented Georgia's 2nd congressional district since 1993, is running for re-election. [13] In redistricting, the 2nd district was made majority- African American [ 14 ] and Macon was moved from the 8th district to the 2nd. [ 15 ]
