Lankershim Boulevard was named after Isaac Lankershim, one of the area's founding families, and is one of the oldest streets in what is now North Hollywood. The boulevard was a major thoroughfare for the town of Toluca (which was renamed Lankershim in 1896 and North Hollywood in 1927), connecting it to Los Angeles by way of the Cahuenga Pass.
Lankershim was originally named Toluca. [1] The center of the town, laid out by James Boon Lankershim and his brother-in-law I.N. Van Nuys, was the "intersection of present day Chandler Blvd. and Lankershim Blvd." [1] Lankershim agreed to be annexed to the City of Los Angeles in 1923.
In October 1887, J.B. Lankershim and eight other developers organized the Lankershim Ranch Land and Water Company, purchasing 12,000 acres (49 km 2) north of the Cahuenga Pass from the Lankershim Farming and Milling Company. [3] Lankershim established a townsite which the residents named Toluca along the old road from Cahuenga Pass to San Fernando.

Universal City/Studio City station is an underground rapid transit (known locally as a subway) station on the B Line of the Los Angeles Metro Rail system. It is located under Lankershim Boulevard at its intersection of Campo de Cahuenga and Universal Hollywood Drive in the neighborhoods of Universal City and Studio City, after which the station is named.
Carl Laemmle officially opened the Second Universal City (Lankershim Boulevard) on March 15, 1915, on the 230-acre (93 ha) Taylor Ranch property.
