Thomas' is a brand of English muffins and bagels in North America, established in 1880. It is owned by Bimbo Bakeries USA , one of the largest baking companies in the United States, which also owns Entenmann's , Sara Lee , Stroehmann, and Arnold Bread companies.
Thomas Earl was born in Ireland in 1810, emigrated to Canada in 1829, and finally arrived in the Ann Arbor area in 1833. He purchased 200 acres of land and began farming, and married Mary Ann Duncan, the sister of a neighbor, in 1834. In 1849 the Earls moved to Ann Arbor and entered the grocery business, living above the store on Main Street.
In 2002, BBU acquired the Western U.S. baking business of George Weston Ltd., adding such iconic premium brands as Oroweat, Entenmann's, Thomas’, and Boboli. In 2008, Grupo Bimbo purchased the remaining U.S. fresh baked goods business of George Weston Ltd., adding brands such as Arnold, Brownberry, Freihofer's, and Stroehmann.
Entenmann's is a 127 year old company originating in New York City.William Entenmann learned the trade of baking from his father in Stuttgart, Germany, and used his acquired skills to work in a bakery in the U.S., eventually opening his own bakery in 1898 on Rogers Avenue in Brooklyn. [1]
Following this, a franchise office was established in 1983. Great Harvest became the nation's first whole grain bread franchise. Great Harvest is led today by President and CEO Mike Ferretti.
