The HH900 was a 900 hp (670 kW) version of the HH series using a turbocharged version of the McIntosh & Seymour 531 engine. Both turbocharged models (HH900 and HH1000) needed a greater cooling capacity, and this was reflected in the larger bodyside radiator space of both models, which distinguishes them from the lower-powered HH600 and HH660.

The Coyote is powered by a Detroit Diesel 6V53T engine developing 400 horsepower (300 kW), and can reach speeds of 100 kilometres per hour (62 mph) (on road). The Coyote has a maximum road range of 660 kilometres (410 mi). It uses a larger wheel than initially used on the Bison and AVGP (these vehicles were later retrofitted with this wheel).

The 20V configuration was mainly designed for haul trucks. Detroit could push the envelope of the 16V (in the marine version it could produce 2,400 hp (1,790 kW) @ 2100 RPM) but it would require special parts. They wanted 2,500 hp (1,864 kW) with standard production parts, so the 20V149 was born.
The 2019–2020 Bullitt and 2021–2023 Mach 1 models received an uprated version of the Coyote rated at 480 hp (358 kW) and 420 lb⋅ft (569 N⋅m). The 20 hp (15 kW) improvement was due to an intake manifold and 87 mm throttle body borrowed from the 5.2 L Voodoo engine as well as a recalibrated powertrain control module.
