Robert Earl Wise (September 10, 1914 – September 14, 2005) was an American filmmaker. He won the Academy Awards for Best Director and Best Picture for his musical films West Side Story (1961) and The Sound of Music (1965).
Of the 89 films that won Best Picture and were also nominated for Best Director, 68 won the award. [7] [8] The award has been criticised in recent years for failing to recognise female directors. [9] Of the 257 individual directors nominated in the history of the award, only 9 have been women; [10] and only 3 of the 75 winners have been women. [11]
Peter Stephen Paul Brook [1] CH CBE (21 March 1925 – 2 July 2022) was an English theatre and film director. He worked first in England, from 1945 at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre, from 1947 at the Royal Opera House, and from 1962 for the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC).
