Beginning in 1985, LCISD began serving middle and high school students from the Kendleton Independent School District (KISD)'s boundaries. [6] KISD and its one school, Powell Point Elementary, were merged into Lamar CISD on July 1, 2010. KISD ceased operations on that date and LCISD began serving elementary students from the former KISD. [7]

The school is part of the Lamar Consolidated Independent School District. The school was established in fall 2010 with the intent of relieving the student populations at the other high schools in LCISD. George Ranch High School has approximately 2700 students.
It opened in 2001, with the intent of relieving the student population at nearby B.F. Terry High School and Lamar Consolidated High School. Foster serves: [ 3 ] unincorporated areas of Fort Bend County, a small portion of Rosenberg , a portion of Pecan Grove , and the communities of Cumings , [ 4 ] Foster , Long Meadow Farms and Lakemont.
