In April 2023, Suga released his debut solo studio album D-Day as Agust D. Described as the third and possibly final installment in his Agust D trilogy of works, [3] the record featured collaborations with BTS bandmate J-Hope, South Korean vocalist IU, Japanese composer Ryuichi Sakamoto, and indie rock singer Woosung of The Rose. D-Day is the debut studio album by South Korean rapper Agust D, also known as Suga of BTS. It was released on April 21, 2023, through Big Hit Music , as the third installment in a trilogy of works that includes the mixtapes Agust D (2016) and D-2 (2020).
Min Yoon-gi (Korean: 민윤기; born March 9, 1993), better known by his stage names, Suga and Agust D, is a South Korean rapper. Managed by Big Hit Music , he has been a member of South Korean boy band BTS since 2013, but worked as a producer prior to joining the group. [ 1 ]
Suga wrote all of the songs for both of his self-produced solo mixtapes Agust D and D-2, released in 2016 and 2020 respectively. The titular lead single from the rapper's first mixtape discussed his success and identity, while the secondary single "Give It to Me" was a diss track addressing "those who would like to see him fail". [ 6 ]
On July 29, 2016, Agust D ' s release date was confirmed to be in August. [13] On August 15, it was released on SoundCloud and for free download via links on Twitter [8] [14] in conjunction with a music video for "Agust D". [15] On August 18, Agust D released a follow-up music video for "Give It to Me". [16]
According to Billboard, Agust D thought the name "Agust D 2" was not satisfying enough for the album. Instead of releasing the mixtape on "D-Day" or "D-0", the artist wanted to undermine expectations and release it a few days before, inspiring him to combine "Agust D-2" and the second to last day of the countdown "D-2" into the name of the mixtape.
