Aida is a 1953 Italian musical melodrama film version of the opera Aida by Giuseppe Verdi. It was directed by Clemente Fracassi and produced by Gregor Rabinovitch and Federico Teti. The screenplay was adapted by Fracassi, Carlo Castelli , Anna Gobbi [ de ] , and Giorgio Salviucci from the libretto by Antonio Ghislanzoni .
It is based on the opera Madama Butterfly with music by Giacomo Puccini and libretto by Luigi Illica and Giuseppe Giacosa. Soprano Ying Huang, tenor Richard Troxell, mezzo-soprano Ning Liang, and bass-baritone Richard Cowan star in the film, in addition to singing their roles. The score was adapted, arranged, and conducted by James Conlon.
Opera was released in Italy on December 19, 1987. [1] Film critic and historian Roberto Curti wrote that the film was a box-office success in Italy, with 706,000 spectators 4,737 million lire grossed. [ 5 ]
