The Wire is set in Baltimore, Maryland; each season of the series expands its focus on a different part of the city. The show features a large ensemble cast; many characters are only featured prominently in a single season.
The series won the Broadcasting & Cable Critics' Poll Award for Best Drama (season 4) and won Time 's critics choice for top television show for season 1 and season 3. Despite the above mentioned awards and unanimous critical approval, The Wire never won a single Primetime Emmy Award, receiving only two writing nominations in 2005 and 2008.
