In 1912 he relocated, rebuilding the mill at its current location at 307 Ann Street in New Iberia and establishing the Conrad Rice Milling and Planting Company. He purchased additional land and moved his rice fields to the south bank of the bayou (now the location of the former Julian Conrad house (Beau Revé) at 1312 East Main St. in New Iberia.
The top floor hosted a cocktail lounge called "Top of the Mart" from the 1970s through 2001. The bar slowly rotated once per hour. After this, a bar called "360" (as in degrees) opened in its place, which remained until Hurricane Katrina in 2005. The World Trade Center closed in June 2011 and the building was purchased by the city of New Orleans.
New Iberia (French: La Nouvelle-Ibérie; [a] Spanish: Nueva Iberia [b]) is the largest city in and the parish seat of Iberia Parish in the U.S. state of Louisiana. [3] The city of New Iberia is located approximately 21 miles (34 kilometers) southeast of Lafayette, and forms part of the Lafayette metropolitan statistical area in the region of Acadiana.
It lies on Bayou Teche, 13 miles (21 km) south of Breaux Bridge, [4] 16 miles (26 km) southeast of Lafayette, [5] and 9 miles (14 km) north of New Iberia. [6] The population was 6,114 at the 2010 U.S. census, and 5,379 at the 2020 United States census. [7] It is part of the Lafayette metropolitan statistical area.
