The Majestic Hotel Group is a Catalan hotel group, with head office in Barcelona. It has been presided by the Soldevila-Casals family since its foundation, in 1918. Currently the group consists of five hotels and two apartment buildings: four of the hotels and the apartments are based in Barcelona and the other hotel is located in Palma of Majorca.
The Hotel Princesa Sofia opened in 1975. It was renamed InterContinental Princesa Sofia in 1996, then Gran Hotel Princesa Sofia in 2004. It was completely renovated in 2017 and renamed Hotel SOFIA Barcelona. [2] It joined The Unbound Collection of Hyatt Hotels in December 2018. [3] It was renamed Grand Hyatt Barcelona on April 3, 2024. [4]
The hotel was built on reclaimed land in the new Passeig de Colom, in front of the building of the General Captaincy. It stood five stories tall at 150 by 35 metres (492 ft × 115 ft) and occupied a lot of 5,000 square metres (54,000 sq ft). Its capacity was for 2,000 guests in 600 rooms and 30 apartments for large families.
The Colony Hotel's newly reimagined poolside cabana counter by designer Matthew Carter will feature a curated collection of Hearst's Fashion & Luxury magazines.
