The International Code of Zoological Nomenclature (ICZN) is a widely accepted convention in zoology that rules the formal scientific naming of organisms treated as animals. It is also informally known as the ICZN Code , for its formal author, the International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature (which shares the acronym "ICZN").
In the ICZN, the system is also called binominal nomenclature, [1] "binomi'N'al" with an "N" before the "al", which is not a typographic error, meaning "two-name naming system". The ICZN is governed by the "Constitution of the ICZN", which is usually published together with the ICZN Code. The regular term of service of a member of the Commission is six years.
