Elma Center is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) in the town of Elma in Erie County, New York, United States. As of the 2010 census, this community population was 2,571. It is part of the Buffalo–Niagara Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. Elma Center is located near the center of the town on Bowen Road.
The district was formed from the merger of the Cresco, Lime Springs/Chester, Elma, and Ridgeway school districts, opening on July 1, 1960. [ 13 ] When Elma had its own K–12 school district, the Elma Eagles Basketball Team made state basketball twice in the 1930s, the first in 1932 and the second in 1937.
The area was settled circa 1827. The early residents included members of the Ebenezer Society.. Elma was the last town formed in the county. When the time came to put up a post office for the local lumber mill, a resident suggested it be named after a famous large American elm, then growing at the corner of the modern Clinton and Bowen Road.
