A variety of different kinds of IEC 60320 plugs and sockets. IEC 60320 Appliance couplers for household and similar general purposes [1] is a set of standards from the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) specifying non-locking connectors for connecting power supply cords to electrical appliances of voltage not exceeding 250 V (a.c.) and rated current not exceeding 16 A. [1 ...
Example of a Europlug. The Europlug is a flat, non-rewirable two-pole, round-pin domestic AC power plug, rated for voltages up to 250 V and currents up to 2.5 A. [1] It is a compromise design intended to connect low-power Class II appliances safely to the many different forms of round-pin domestic power socket used across Europe.
Schuko sockets can accept two-pin unearthed Europlug (CEE 7/16) and CEE 7/17. Less safely, Schuko plugs can be inserted into many two-pin unearthed CEE 7/1 sockets and into some sockets with a different form of earth connection that will not mate with the earth contacts on the Schuko plug (e.g., some variants of the Danish socket).
BS 4573 1.1 Scope "The shaver sockets have a restricted rating of 200 mA for use on voltages of 200 V to 250 v a.c. only and are shuttered and are for use in rooms other than bathrooms." BS 4573 4.7.3 Current-limiting device "Shaver socket-outlets shall incorporate a current limiting device, ..." and specifies the 200 mA requirement.
BS 546, Two-pole and earthing-pin plugs, socket-outlets and socket-outlet adaptors for AC (50–60 Hz) circuits up to 250 V is an older British Standard for three-pin AC power plugs and sockets. Originally published in April 1934, it was updated by a 1950 edition which is still current, [1] with eight amendments up to 1999. BS 546 is also the ...

Bobblewik 08:35, 10 Sep 2004 (UTC) Most hotels I have stayed in have shaver plugs in bathrooms which accept pretty much any size or shape of pin.
