Carol J. Baker, MD (born 1948) is an American pediatric infectious disease specialist and vaccinologist, known for her pioneering work in Group B Streptococcus (GBS) prevention. Baker is a Professor of Pediatrics, Molecular Virology, and Microbiology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston.

Carol Baker Tharp was born in Charleston, South Carolina, and later grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina. In the early 1970s, she received her bachelor's degree from Wake Forest University . [ 2 ] In 1986, she and her husband, Michael, moved to Los Angeles , California , settling in Eagle Rock .
