Black Sabbath were an English heavy metal band from Aston, Birmingham.Formed in September 1968 under the initial name Earth, the group's first lineup included lead vocalist Ozzy Osbourne, guitarist Tony Iommi, bassist Geezer Butler and drummer Bill Ward.

William Thomas Ward (born 5 May 1948 [1]) is an English musician.He was a co-founder and the original drummer for the heavy metal band Black Sabbath.Ward helped found Black Sabbath in 1968 alongside bandmates Ozzy Osbourne (lead singer), Tony Iommi (guitarist), and Geezer Butler (bass).
Ozzy Osbourne was fired from Black Sabbath on 27 April 1979, primarily due to his problems with alcohol and drug abuse. [1] The vocalist subsequently rehearsed with a range of musicians in an attempt to form his own band, including guitarists Gary Moore of Thin Lizzy and George Lynch of Dokken, [2] [3] bassist Dana Strum, [4] and drummers Dixie Lee of Lone Star and Dave Potts of Praying Mantis.
He rejoined Black Sabbath in 1991 for the reunion of the Mob Rules line-up, but again quit the group after the Cross Purposes tour in 1994. [8] In 1995 Butler again joined Osbourne's band to perform on the Ozzmosis album. [12] After recording Ozzmosis, he formed G/Z/R, issuing Plastic Planet in 1995. Tommy Clufetos (born December 30, 1979) is an American session drummer most noted for his work with Black Sabbath during their Black Sabbath Reunion Tour, which highlighted their new album 13. He also toured with them on their final tour. Clufetos is also the drummer for vocalist Ozzy Osbourne as well as the supergroup L.A. Rats.
