“The President’s Own” United States Marine Band’s mission is to perform music for the President of the United States and the Commandant of the Marine Corps. Founded in 1798 by an Act of Congress, the Marine Band is America’s oldest continuously active professional musical organization.
Join the Marine Band and Congressional Cemetery on Nov. 6 for a celebration of the life and legacy of John Philip Sousa. The Marine Band plays the “March King’s” music at his graveside every year on his birthday and the public is encouraged to attend. The program will begin at 1 p.m.
In present day, approximately 65 musicians from the band tour during the month of October, performing in one of the country's five designated tour regions: West Coast, Southwest, Southeast, Northeast and Midwest. Concerts last two hours and take place evenings Monday-Saturday and Sunday afternoons.
