Re: Sekui Halibut Sekiu is tough; I also just returned. We boated 4 fish in 2.5 days, largest being 20#. As for the location, I was just like you, new to the area and halibut fishing, asking everybody where to go. Everybody claims we are brothers out in these waters, but when it came to fishing areas, we didn't get any love or any information.

I use them almost exclusively and they seem to catch the larger halibut vs. the bait on the ocean, and the halibut go crazy for them. The only problem is, I lose about 30% of my fish when hooked on this jig (the Mudraker).
TrollKing. You are not actually 'dispatching' the halibut, as much as stunnning it. While the shot may indeed by fatal, what you are trying to do is stun the halibut so it doesn't thrash as you bring it aboard. In my old commercial fishing days, I've used a 22 and also a 410, both to good results.

Very smooth and generates good leverage (and for me casts well) That reel gets mounted on everything from a 5'6" heavy standup rod for deepwater halibut, to a 6'6" trolling rod for albacore, to a 12' Surf rod for shorefishing sturgeon. The 6/1 ratio has its downside as does the lack of levelwind.

If the tide is coming in start up near the Keystone Ferry terminal (I give them a 1/2 mile and start farther to the south and east). If the tides coming in run south and east until you get into about 200 ft of water.

Honorable Commissioners, On behalf of the Northwest Sportfishing Industry Association I am writing to supply comment on the proposal to eliminate the use of electric or hydraulic reels by sport fishermen in pursuit of halibut.
Big bottomfish, and deepwater. -It starts with 3/4" copper pipe cut in either 9.5" or 12.5" sections. (A 9.5" section of lead-filled copper pipe weighs less than 1000 grams making it legal for use in Canadian waters. The 12.5" is reserved for the deep water spots on the US side, when required.
