Epping St John's School, formerly known as St John's Church of England Voluntary Controlled School, is a school in Epping, Essex. St John's was founded in 1851 to educate the sons of the clergy, and was moved from St John's Wood, London to its current site in Surrey in 1872. In the mid-1850s St John's established a Church of England Denominational Day School in a small, plain white stone building near the corner of Charlotte and Bland St, [1]: p. 74 [13]: p. 102 However, when the Ashfield public school expanded in 1875, the church school proved unable to compete, and by 1880 it was closed.
