Frederick U. Conard High School is a public high school in West Hartford, in the U.S. state of Connecticut.It opened in 1957, and was named after Frederick Underwood Conard, president of Niles-Bement-Pond Company and chairman of the local Board of Education when plans for the school were approved. Northwest Catholic High School (NWC) is a private, Roman Catholic, co-educational high school in West Hartford, Connecticut, United States. It was established in 1961 [ 5 ] and is located in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Hartford .
Opened in 1924, it was named after William Hutchins Hall, who was a teacher, principal, and superintendent of schools in West Hartford. [ 1 ] [ 4 ] [ 5 ] The school colors are blue and white , and the school’s mascot is the Titans, formerly the Warriors, after the Board Of Education voted to change it on February 1, 2022. [ 6 ]
The issue was brought up again at a board of education meeting in February 2020. At this meeting, the West Hartford Board of Education supported a statewide move to require that students in grades 6-12 begin academic classes no earlier than 8:30 a.m. so they can arrive at school “healthy, awake, alert, and ready to learn.” [10]
By 2016 the school's budget was $111,709 in deficit. In 2008-2009 it had a peak enrollment of 219. In 2014 there was concern expressed about the school's survival expressed in the community, and in 2016 enrollment was down to 139, with 22 being in special education.
