Vueling Airbus A320-200. On 8 November 2012, IAG made a cash tender offer to buy Vueling, a Spanish low-cost airline based in Barcelona. The offer was €7 per ordinary share of Vueling, with the total cost of acquisition anticipated to be €113m. It was funded from internal IAG resources.
Since the merger, Vueling has become the second-largest Spanish carrier, flying 8.2 million passengers in 2009 to almost 50 destinations. After ceasing operations, 20 of the 26 aircraft went to Vueling. The rest of the fleet went to Astraeus Airlines, Vertir Airlines and Ural Airlines, with two being stored.
In November 2015, Cruz was hired by the CEO of International Airlines Group, Willie Walsh, [4] as the next CEO and chairman of British Airways, to begin in April 2016. International Airlines Group, the owner of British Airways, also owns Vueling. Cruz succeeded Keith Williams. [5]
