Wales is a level 1 ITL region alongside Scotland, Northern Ireland and the 9 statistical regions of England, with the code "TLL". It is subdivided into two ITL 2 regions, which are themselves divided into twelve ITL 3 regions.
The statistical region covers all of western Wales from Denbighshire in the north, to the South Wales Valleys and including Bridgend, Swansea, Neath Port Talbot, as well as the Isle of Anglesey off the north-west coast of Wales. [1] It covers an area of 1,240,000 hectares (12,400 km 2), with a coastline of 1,150 kilometres (710 mi).
The regions of Wales have little administrative status, as of 2022, nor are they officially defined. Local government is primarily managed by the twenty-two principal areas. Some argue that Wales should stop using terms to describe regions of Wales, as they lack both strict definitions and boundaries, and instead consider Wales as a single entity.
