World Athletics (then IAAF) commenced the recognition of world records in 1912, and indoor world records after 1987. In 2000, IAAF rule 260.18a (formerly 260.6a) was amended, so that "world records" (as opposed to "indoor world records") can be set in a facility "with or without roof".
United Arab Emirates has competed at the IAAF World Athletics Championships on thirteen occasions, taking part since 1993 and failing to send a delegation in 2003, 2005 and 2007. Its competing country code is UAE. The country has not won any medals at the competition and as of 2017 none of the country's athletes have competed in a final.
