Belvidere / ˈ b ɛ l v ɪ d ɪər / is a city and the county seat of Boone County, Illinois.It is settled on the Kishwaukee River in far northern Illinois, United States.Known as the 'City of Murals', Belvidere is home to several public art installations throughout the North and South State Street historic districts, which are on the National Register of Historic Places.

The site is at the southern end of the Meeting of the Great Rivers Scenic Route. The Lewis and Clark State Historic Site is situated on the dry side of the Chain of Rocks Levee, approximately 0.25 miles (0.40 km) from the Illinois shore of the Mississippi River. It is also known as Lewis and Clark State Park.
