Cachuma Lake is a reservoir in the Santa Ynez Valley of central Santa Barbara County, California on the Santa Ynez River adjoining the north side of California State Route 154. The artificial lake was created by the construction of Bradbury Dam , a 201 ft (61 m) earth-fill structure built by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation in 1953.

The dam at Lake Cuyamaca is the second-oldest in California still in use, and was completed in 1888. [1] It was built to supply drinking water to the city of San Diego. [1] It was originally piped down to San Diego in wooden flumes. It continues to be part of a municipal water supply system for the Helix Water District. [1]
The lake area is designated as the Lake Cachuma Recreation Area. Cachuma County Park, near Tequepis Point, provides lake access. Water from the lake is diverted into the Tecolote Tunnel, which passes south under the mountains to the Santa Barbara area. Below Lake Cachuma, the Santa Ynez River continues its westward course.
