Pleasant Creek State Recreation Area is a 1,927-acre (780 ha) state recreation area in Linn County, Iowa, United States, near the city of Palo. The recreation area is home to the 410-acre (170 ha) Pleasant Creek Lake. Both the lake and the park were formed in the 1960s to provide eastern Iowa with a large recreational lake.
The park was started by local grassroots efforts in 2002, it became a state recreation area and officially opened in June 2006. [1] The "Big Bog" is composed mostly of wetlands. The name was not widely used but had shown up previously in maps, such as by the National Geographic Society.
A 1972 survey by Minnesota's DNR indicated the presence of a beaver lodge on the south outlet, and multiple beaver dams along the course of the creek have converted patches of the marsh into open water. [2] A 1971 survey by the fisheries department indicated the lake was home to populations of northern pike, white sucker, and yellow perch. [1]
