A comfort station was erected in the park 1905, and a World War I memorial was dedicated there in 1919. The park was altered in 1936 by the addition of drinking fountains, benches, and a playground. A park improvement scheme in 1939 provided the park with a new grass lawn planted by boy scouts. [5] These improvements were completed in 1941. [6]

Brighton State Recreation Area is an 4,947-acre (20.02 km 2) recreation area, located near Mount Brighton ski area in Livingston County, Michigan. It has 39 miles of trails for mountain biking, hiking, skiing and horse riding. There are 3 campgrounds providing over 200 campsites.

The Platte River Campground site extends 300 meters (980 ft) along the north bank of the Platte River, and runs up to 160 meters (520 ft) deep. [3] The site is a multicomponent site, with repeated prehistoric occupations over the Middle and Late Woodland Periods as well as historic occupation around the turn of the 20th century; thus, artifacts were found covering a range of time periods.
Winter activities include cross-country skiing and snowmobiling. Camping is provided for at 160 campsites and 3 rustic cabins, one of which is the Rolston Cabin. There is a groomed beach with picnic tables, a snack bar, and boat rentals on Heron Lake. The park area also encompasses McGinnis Lake, Valley Lake, and Wildwood Lake.
