The Corpses of the De Witt Brothers is a c. 1672–75 oil on canvas painting by the Dutch Golden Age painter Jan de Baen, now in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. [1] It shows the dead and mutilated bodies of the brothers Johan and Cornelis de Witt hanging upside down on the Groene Zoodje, the place of execution in front of the Gevangenpoort in The Hague.
Johan de Witt (24 September 1625 – 20 August 1672) was a Dutch statesman who was a major political figure during the First Stadtholderless Period, when flourishing global trade in a period of rapid European colonial expansion made the Dutch a leading trading and seafaring power in Europe, commonly referred to as the Dutch Golden Age.
For most of his career, DeWitt sang tenor for The Statler Brothers. Songs he wrote for the group include "Flowers on the Wall"— which was a greatest hit during the late 1960s and early 1970s that made the group popular — "Things," "Since Then," "Thank You World," "The Strand," "The Movies," and "Chet Atkins' Hand."

Cornelis de Witt was a member of the old Dutch patrician family De Witt.His father was Jacob de Witt, an influential regent and burgher from the patrician class in the city of Dordrecht, which in the 17th century was one of the most important cities of the dominating province of Holland.
De Wit made his professional debut in the Eerste Divisie for Jong Ajax on 3 February 2017 in a game against RKC Waalwijk. [2] On 25 February 2018, he made his debut in the senior squad in a 0–0 Eredivisie draw against ADO Den Haag. [3]
