The band plays the song when the Tiger defense forces the opposing team to punt on fourth down or makes a noteworthy defensive play (such as intercepting a pass). "Darling of LSU" and "The LSU Cadets March" were both composed by Huey P. Long and band director Castro Carazo. The songs are no longer a part of the band's everyday repertoire.[2]
