Hillsborough County Public Schools (HCPS) is a school district that runs the public school system of Hillsborough County in west central Florida and is headquartered in Tampa, Florida, United States. It is frequently referred to as the School District of Hillsborough County (SDHC). The district serves all of Hillsborough County. [4]
Hillsborough County is located in the west-central portion of the U.S. state of Florida.In the 2020 census, the population was 1,459,762, [2] making it the fourth-most populous county in Florida and the most populous county outside the Miami metropolitan area.
It was founded in 1921, as a committee within the Hillsborough County Education Foundation. In 1965, it broke away to become a separate entity. [1] In 1968, the union took part in the Florida Education Association's statewide strike of teachers for more education funding and collective bargaining rights. [1] [2] [3]
The credit union formed in 1934 to originally serve teachers in Hillsborough County and later expanded to serve school employees within the state's suncoast region. Since December 2013, the credit union is open to anyone who lives, works, attends school, or worships in the 39 counties which the credit union serves.
Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) is the primary law enforcement agency for Hillsborough County, Florida, and is responsible for law enforcement services for the 888 square miles (2,300 km 2) of unincorporated areas of the county as well as operation of the two jail facilities and provides courthouse security for the 13th Judicial Circuit.
On May 15, 2007, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places as the Old Hillsborough County High School. [ 1 ] Built in the city's Tampa Heights neighborhood in 1911 at a cost of $60,000, the old Hillsborough County High School building served what was then the county's only high school. [ 3 ]
