St. James' Church, Goose Creek, also known as the Goose Creek Church, is an Episcopal church at 100 Vestry Lane in Goose Creek, South Carolina.Built in the 1710s, it is one of South Carolina's oldest surviving buildings, and one of a small number of surviving early Georgian chapels in the nation.
The Goose Creek Historic District is a rural landscape in the Goose Creek valley of Loudoun County, Virginia. The district covers about 10,000 acres (4,000 ha) south of Hamilton and Purcellville and includes the village of Lincoln. The majority of the district is farmland, with areas of forest along Hogback Mountain.
Virginia ordered the sale of all glebes in 1802, but the parish resisted. Legal action was not settled until 1830, and the property was finally sold in 1840. [3] It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on April 1, 1975. [1] The Shelburne Glebe is contained within the larger Goose Creek Historic District, a rural landscape. [4]
Although the city of Goose Creek was established in 1961, [7] its history dates back many centuries. In the 1670s the Etiwan moved to the area to escape the Westo, seeking protection among the plantations of early colonists who were often referred to as the "Goose Creek men", mostly settled a few miles north of Charleston near a stream called Goose Creek, a tributary of the Cooper River.
Goose Creek Village is east of the center of Loudoun County, on the west side of Belmont Ridge Road. The Dulles Greenway (Virginia Route 267) runs through the southern part of the CDP, leading northwest 7 miles (11 km) to Leesburg, the county seat, and southeast 10 miles (16 km) to Washington Dulles International Airport.
