The Challenge is a reality competition show on MTV that is a spin-off of two of the network's reality shows: The Real World and Road Rules. The series premiered on April 20, 1998, [ 1 ] and was originally titled Road Rules: All Stars .
Control (episodes 1-4): Players all compete together as one group to complete a challenge; if they are successful, $50,000 is added to the prize pot. Afterward, the contestants vote for one player (of either gender for the first three weeks and male for the fourth week due to uneven numbers) to compete in the elimination round (the "Arena").
Starting in 2018, new contestants were chosen outside of MTV network alumni from different networks. The contestants compete against one another in various extreme challenges to avoid elimination.
