Muir Woods National Monument (/ m jʊər / MURE) is a United States National Monument managed by the National Park Service and named after naturalist John Muir.It is located on Mount Tamalpais near the Pacific coast in southwestern Marin County, California.
John Muir Wood was born in Edinburgh on 31 July 1805, the son of Andrew Wood and Jacobina Ferrier. [1]Wood's father was a partner in the Edinburgh piano manufacturing and music publishing firm of Muir, Wood and Company, and later Wood, Small and Company.

Redwood Creek is formed by the confluence Rattlesnake Creek and Spike Buck Creeks at elevation 341 feet (104 m) [17] [18] on the southern flanks of Mount Tamalpais, however its tributaries begin on the peak at about 2,000 feet (610 m).
The reserve includes a visitor center, outdoor amphitheater, self-guided nature trails, and a variety of picnic facilities. Although no camping is available in the redwood grove, there is a campground at Austin Creek State Recreation Area, which is adjacent to the park.
