Sriwijaya's first-ever squad in 2005. The club was founded on 23 October 2004 as Sriwijaya Football Club after the Government of South Sumatra, led by Syahrial Oesman, bought the debt-ridden Persijatim Solo FC, as the government wanted to manage a Palembang-based football team to compete in the top tier of Indonesian football.
Gelora Sriwijaya Stadium, also known as Jakabaring Stadium (Indonesian: Stadion Gelora Sriwijaya; literally "Sriwijaya Sports Arena Stadium"), is a multi-purpose stadium located in Jakabaring Sport City complex in Palembang, South Sumatra, Indonesia. Holding 23,000 spectators., [1] the stadium is currently used mostly for football matches.
The 2018 season was the Sriwijaya's 12th season in the club's football history. Along with Liga 1, the club will compete in Piala Indonesia. [1] In the pre-season, Sriwijaya attended two competitions, 2018 Indonesia President's Cup and 2018 East Kalimantan Governor's Cup with resulted in third place and champion respectively.
Sriwijaya has three large supporter bases with cultural differences that occupy three stands at Gelora Sriwijaya Stadium wearing different colored attributes. Sriwijaya Mania (S-Man) is the oldest formed along with the club's debut in official competition in 2005 – the group controls the south stand of the stadium wearing yellow attributes.
