The school is named for Californian missionary Saint Junípero Serra. Junípero Serra High School was founded by James Francis Cardinal McIntyre and the Society of Mary (Marianists) as an all boys school in the South Bay section of Los Angeles. Daniel Vincent "Danny" Frisella was born on March 4, 1946, in San Francisco, California. Frisella was the son of a firefighter.
