His wife was pregnant when he died. She made it through school with her two little kids, and eventually fell in love again. John's father walked her down the aisle, and apparently John's two kids are told frequently by their stepfather how much their dad loved them and what a good man he was. They still attend the Jones family reunion every year.

But when he reached the narrow crevice trapping 26-year-old John Jones in Utah County’s Nutty Putty Cave, he had to fight back tears. The simple geometry looked impossible. The crevice was at the end of a cramped tunnel, and rescuers had realized hours earlier that extracting John’s 6-foot, 200-pound body would likely break his legs.

The cave was called the Nutty Putty Cave. He thought he was in "birth canal" but was another part of the cave. Map's seem to label that area as "Ed's Push" but everything I've read and heard about the passage says it was uncharted. Either way, I doubt you will find many pictures other than the ones from the rescue effort.

In a last ditch effort after he was already unresponsive, they tried one last time to attach a rope to his waist to pull him out but there was just no way. He was declared dead by a doctor shortly after. They had some of the best cave rescuers in the world on site, and were consulting with many more globally.

Additionally, the rescuers also got the opportunity to feed John through IV tubes. However, a tragedy struck and one of the pulleys suddenly broke. According to Roundy, the pulley came loose at its anchor point due to the clayish-rock of the cave. This marked the end of the rope and pulley operation and John was back where he was initially ...

Question on nutty putty cave. Truly a tragic story. From what I’ve read, this system was particularly restrictive, posing a good challenge. The area where John (may he Rest In Peace) was exploring was “unmapped”. What I don’t understand is how a cave that was so popular and known about for decades wasn’t fully mapped out.
