Kill Devil Hills is located at (36.025448, −75.670105), [12] on the barrier islands known as the Outer [ 9 ] According to the United States Census Bureau , the town has a total area of 5.5 square miles (14 km 2 ), of which 5.5 square miles (14 km 2 ) is land and 0.04 square miles (0.10 km 2 ) (0.36%) is water.

In the mid-1960's a bridge connecting St. George Island to the mainland in Eastpoint, Florida was built paving the way for the expansion of tourism and development of the island. In 1971, 4,600 acres including 17 miles of beachfront property on St. George Island (and adjacent Little St. George Island) was purchased by Leisure Properties, Ltd.
The town was a total loss, but was rebuilt, and prospered as a vacation spot after the storm. Originally a single island, two more man-made Keys were added, one to the southwest in 1955, and one to the northeast some time later. The name of the town was officially changed to "Craig Key" in 1971. [1]
Fleming Key is an island off the northwest corner of the island of Key West, Florida in the lower Florida Keys. It is roughly 2 miles (3.2 km) long by 0.25 miles (400 m) wide. It is connected to the island of Key West by the Fleming Key Bridge (Mustin Road), having 18 feet (5.5 m) of clearance over Fleming Key Cut, a small channel. [1]
The house is the oldest house in the Keys outside of Key West and the only surviving tabby house in the Keys. Adderley was a black immigrant from the Bahamas. He came to the Key Largo, Florida in 1890 and by 1891 was a naturalized citizen of the United States. He and his wife Olivia got a $100 mortgage and bought the 32 acre property in 1901.
