The river widens at this place, later becoming a bay that discharges into the Atlantic Ocean and is often nicknamed "Bas-du-Fleuve" (Lower-River).

Saint-Simon-de-Rimouski (French pronunciation: [sɛ̃ simɔ̃ də ʁimuski]) is a municipality in the Les Basques Regional County Municipality in the Bas-Saint-Laurent region of Quebec, Canada. Its population in the Canada 2021 Census was 455. [2] [3] Before 2020 it was known as Saint-Simon.
The first settlers arrived in 1860. They were in fact pioneers from Scottish descents coming from the United States and others from Saint-François-de-Madawaska, New Brunswick. The Catholic mission was founded in 1874 under the name of Saint-Joseph-de-la-Rivière-Bleue, and the postal office opened in 1910.
