SEAT León Mk1 race car. The first generation SEAT León Cupra R was the basis of a one-make trophy, the SEAT Leon Supercopa. It operated in Spain, UK, Germany and Turkey from 2003. The car was developed by SEAT Sport and power was raised to 184 kilowatts (250 PS; 247 bhp).

The "Cupra" name, short for "Cup Racing" [1] was first used in 1996 by the SEAT Ibiza GTI 2.0 16V Cupra Sport. It is a street legal version of the Ibiza Mk2 kit car used in the competition, created as a special edition to celebrate SEAT's victory in the 1996 FIA 2-Litre World Rally Cup, a subdivision of the World Rally Championship at that time.
The first letter prefix indicates the car classification or physical size (A, B, C or D - for 'traditional' cars); followed by a number to enumerate different generations of the same class. However, more recent platforms have formally departed from this convention, although the older alphanumeric codes continue to be used informally.
The Eurocup used the same car that made its debut in the Spanish Supercopa series in 2006. They were front-wheel drive and had a 220 kW 4 cylinder, 2 L DOHC turbocharged engine. The cars cost £63,000 to buy for 2009. The series used Pirelli and Yokohama tyres.
