Bladen County (/ ˈ b l eɪ d ən /) [1] is a county located in the U.S. state of North Carolina. As of the 2020 census, the population was 29,606. [2] Its county seat is Elizabethtown. [3] The county was created in 1734 as Bladen Precinct and gained county status in 1739. [4]
It collects state taxes and administers tax legislation. It also researches taxation and supervises property assessing in the state. [6] It is led by the Secretary of Revenue. Appointed by the governor, the secretary is an ex officio member of the State Tax Review Board and the North Carolina Local Government Commission.
It is one of 15 townships within the county. It is 94 square miles (240 km 2) in total area, and is located in east-central Bladen County.
