State Route 3 (SR 3) is a 120.67-mile-long (194.20 km) state highway located in southern Maine. It is a major interregional highway, connecting the Interstate 95 corridor to the Atlantic coast . The western terminus is at SR 8 , SR 11 and SR 27 in Augusta and the eastern terminus is at SR 102 and SR 198 in Mount Desert .
SR 179 begins at a skewed intersection with U.S. Route 1A (US 1A) about 1.6 miles (2.6 km) northwest of downtown Ellsworth, but still within the city limits. Within the small commercialized settlement of Ellsworth Falls, SR 179 immediately crosses a disused railroad and a new rail trail past the US 1A intersection.
Ellsworth Falls is the location of the Agassiz Outcrop Maine Geological Survey: Maine ACF, a National Historic Landmark, notable for its early recognition as evidence of glaciation. The city is served by U.S. Route 1 and U.S. Route 1A , in addition to state routes 3 , 172 , 179 , 180 , 184 and 230 .

The Old Hancock County Buildings are a pair of Greek Revival buildings on Court Street, at a triangular intersection with U.S. Route 1 (US 1) and Maine State Route 172 in Ellsworth, Maine. Originally built in 1834 and 1838 to house Ellsworth Town Hall and the Hancock County courthouse, they are now owned and occupied by the Courthouse Art Gallery.
