Chen was the third son in a large family from Fuzhou, Fujian, China. His father was a postal worker. Chen Jingrun graduated from the Mathematics Department of Xiamen University in 1953. His advisor at the Chinese Academy of Sciences was Hua Luogeng.
The statue of Chen Jingrun at Xiamen University. In number theory, Chen's theorem states that every sufficiently large even number can be written as the sum of either two primes, or a prime and a semiprime (the product of two primes). It is a weakened form of Goldbach's conjecture, which states that every even number is the sum of two primes.
In mathematics, a prime number p is called a Chen prime if p + 2 is either a prime or a product of two primes (also called a semiprime). The even number 2 p + 2 therefore satisfies Chen's theorem . The Chen primes are named after Chen Jingrun , who proved in 1966 that there are infinitely many such primes.
The article claims Chen is one of the greats of the 20th century, but no citation is given. This claim sounds dubious to me. Someone removed the same claim from Grothendieck's article.Aliotra 15:25, 11 December 2010 (UTC) There is nothing to be gained from a discussion of the relative greatness of mathematicians.

See Chen's theorem for further information. In 1975, Hugh Lowell Montgomery and Bob Vaughan showed that "most" even numbers are expressible as the sum of two primes. More precisely, they showed that there exist positive constants c and C such that for all sufficiently large numbers N , every even number less than N is the sum of two primes ...
Chen Jingrong (simplified Chinese: 陈敬容; traditional Chinese: 陳敬容; pinyin: Chén Jìngróng; 2 September 1917 – 8 November 1989) was a Chinese poet and translator. Biography [ edit ]
In 1975, Chen Ning Yang and Chern found out that their research in non-abelian gauge theory and Fiber bundle describe the same theoretical structure, which showed a surprising connection between physics and mathematics. Therefore, Chern asked Fan Zeng to finish a chinese painting named Shiing-Shen Chern and Chen Ning Yang for that.
